11/29/2023 0 Comments Atomic clock dcThe realization that Earth's rotation was not constant and therefore could not serve as an accurate measure of time became clear in the 1930s, when clocks had become sufficiently sophisticated to demonstrate the discrepancy, notes Dennis McCarthy, an astronomer who heads the Directorate of Time at the Naval Observatory, established in 1830 to cooperate with observatories around the world in charting astronomical time. In the U.S., each city and town kept its own time based on direct observation of the sun until 116 years ago, when the uniform time zones were established.Ī little more than 100 years ago, industrialization made timepieces widely available to ordinary families and began to draw attention away from nature to "clock time," said Carlene Stephens, curator of a new exhibit on time at the Smithsonian Institution. Time was linked to natural processes that could be readily observed. To do so, it needs clocks that are more sensitive than most in use today.Īll this is pretty heady stuff, from a historical perspective.Īlthough mechanical clocks have been around since the late 1600s, until the 1800s most people across the planet kept time by watching the movement of the sun across the sky and the path of the stars over the heavens. Naval Observatory, the official timekeeper for the military. military uses the satellite system to guide ships, aircraft or missiles with an accuracy range of about 10 yards, but it would like to bring that down to a yard or two at most, said Geoff Chester, public affairs officer at the U.S. The distance is computed by how long it takes light to travel to a certain point. The Global Positioning System, a network of 24 satellites that circle Earth twice a day, depends on atomic clocks aboard each satellite to help mark precisely where they are in orbit, and how far they are from any given point on Earth. Air traffic controllers use top-of-the-line clocks to help them guide planes. Radio and television stations rely on time to set broadcast schedules. The optical fiber networks that transmit vast amounts of data depend on clocks that synchronize the sending and receiving of in-formation. Time as infrastructure? Consider that all stock transactions on the major exchanges, where prices can change in an instant, are time-stamped.Įlectric companies maintain standard frequencies, which allow everything from televisions to computers to work when plugged into outlets, based on precise timekeeping. ![]() "And yet, they have become an essential piece of infrastructure today, which has made possible things like satellite navigation and telecommunications." "If you go back and talk to the people who built these atomic clocks, no one could justify them on the basis of a known industrial need," Sullivan said. ![]() The meter, for instance, is considered the amount of distance that light, which speeds along at 186,347 miles per second, covers in a certain time.īut the physicists who have dreamed up ever finer ways to slice time in this atomic age have always been in the lead. In fact, international standards for both the meter (a unit of distance) and voltage (a unit of electricity) are defined in terms of time because of the clocks' reliability. No means of measuring distance, or weight, or any other physical property even comes close. Today's atomic clocks already generate the most sensitive, sophisticated measures known to man. ![]() It's difficult to imagine the uses to which this extraordinary precision will be put.

11/29/2023 0 Comments Aftermath netflix synopsis![]() ![]() She explains that Jay and Erin were also having marriage troubles, with Jay cheating on his wife with a number of different women. To try and understand what’s going on, Natalie pays a visit to Claudia (the woman who sold them the house). Natalie’s sister Dani somehow disappears in the house, and their dog then has to be put down after ingesting poison. Eventually though, things get more sinister. After being attacked by a mysterious man, Natalie reports the incidents to the police, but the whole ordeal is put down to stress. Not long after, they begin experiencing paranormal activity, noticing that objects appear to be disappearing and reappearing in random places, and their dog barking at an empty closet - all the usual tropes. While Natalie is hesitant at first, she eventually gives in and the pair move in. It’s actually Jay’s sister Claudia sells the house to the couple, much to the displeasure of her husband, Robert). Their counselor suggests a change in environment could be just what they need, so Kevin suggests they buy the house he has just cleaned (yes, the murder house). We learn this has been caused by Natalie having an affair with a friend, and the couple are in counselling in an attempt to work through it. ![]() While the couple seem happy on surface level, there’s undeniably tension. Kevin is a college dropout who now works as a crime scene cleaner, and lives a relatively normal suburban life with his wife Natalie, an aspiring fashion designer. The next day, Kevin Dadich and a small team of workers arrive at the scene to clean it. A woman (Erin, who designed the house) is shot dead by her husband (Jay), who shoots himself shortly after, making it a murder suicide. However, as they soon come to realise, the house and its mysterious happenings only heighten their relationship problems.Īs with any good horror flick, it starts with a gruesome murder. The film follows the journey of an American couple as they navigate their crumbling marriage, believing that a change of scenery (read: moving house) will do the trick. The latest, a supernatural horror flick titled, Aftermath. The movie stars Twilight's Ashley Greene and X-Men 's Shawn Ashmore and promises to terrify.Īccording to the opening credits, the movie is based on real life events (which only serves to increase the spook factor), but regardless is still a fictional account and not a true crime story. IMPORTANT SAFETY PRECAUTION: Before you dig, call 1100 (Australia) or your local utilities to rule out the presence of buried cables including power, water, gas and phone lines. If you are opting for the elevated slab then you may not need to excavate but you do need to remove any grass and level the ground. If you require the concrete to be flush with the surrounding ground then you must excavate 115mm below surface level to allow for the concrete slab (100mm) and sports surface tile (15mm). Prior to concreting, the space must be dug up and leveled. Take note of the hoop's overhang in centimeters so you can plan accurate placement of the hoop anchor, free throw and three point lines. The in-ground Hoop anchor kit should be installed during the concrete pour, so ensure you’ve ordered your Hoop in time to arrive before you schedule the concrete. 11/28/2023 0 Comments Car dvr 1080pThe display we spoke about will help you in getting the right angles, so you capture as much of the scene as possible. When you’re setting up your dash cam, you’ll either have some kind of adhesive, or a suction cup. With loop recording, the oldest video will be overwritten by the newest one, so you always have the latest events recorded. While most of them support large memory cards, chances are you’ll forget to empty it once in a while, and you’ll still want the latest video to be saved to it. Last but not least, there’s loop recording, but this is almost standard on all cameras. A G-sensor, on the other hand, detects when there’s been a collision and will lock the recording so it doesn’t get deleted. Automatic recording detects when you start your car and will tell the camera to start recording instantly. You could also invest in a camera that has automatic recording mode, and a G-sensor. Sure, a good high-resolution sensor is good, but night mode will make a huge difference when the sun goes down. When there isn’t a lot of light, you’ll want IR LEDs that can still illuminate the scene and let you capture everything that’s happening. However, it’s certainly useful if it has one.Īs far as additional functionality goes, it’s always handy if your camera has a dedicated night mode, for example. Therefore, there’s only a small display on dash cams, and the resolution isn’t all that important. It’s only used to set your camera up, get your settings right and make sure it’s recording in the right direction and capturing the right angle. Now, let’s get one thing straight when it comes to the display – it is not a display you will be used for reviewing the footage in case something happens. It’s also crucial when your vehicle is parked and someone damages it. In the event of a collision, capturing as much as possible is crucial when you need to determine who’s at fault, and how things happened. A dash cam is fixed to your vehicle, so a wider field of view means it will capture a larger part of the scene. A higher resolution lets you distinguish details such as license plates and faces, so it’s more than useful. However, if you’re willing to spend a bit more, by all means go for a 1080p, or even 4K camera. Fortunately, most of the midrange models are 720p, so you’re good to go. The minimum, if you can afford it, should be a 720p camera. While during the day, that could be enough, when there isn’t too much light you’ll seldom get usable video from it. The cheapest, most budget-oriented models, will come with a 480p camera. The resolution is the most important thing, as it directly dictates the image quality you’ll get from your dash cam. ![]() ![]() Without going into too many details (we’ve got a detailed guide here as well), what are the key few things that matter when buying a dash cam? Lunar Isle is a really quick way to all the fremennik Islands, if you teleport there and talk to the banker without the seal you get kicked off the island and land at the fremennik docks. I would also recommend filling your other two portals with kourend castle and lunar Isle. Salve graveyard is best fairy ring access so it's high priority for a house teleport. TLDR: Slave Graveyard teleport / portal is useful to access Barrows (+gain bowstrings/essence) & Fairy Ring for a low level ironman After a short while I realized that the Slave graveyard teleport is right next to temple trekking start, so it will make the trips faster.ĭecided to build my first portal in my PoH directed to Slave Graveyard and damn isn't it a good portal to have in your house for lower level ironmen! It works great for Barrows runs while allows you to gather bowstrings/essence at the same time, but also is a teleport very close to a fairy ring for other activities as well!įor some reason I haven't seen the Slave Graveyard teleport suggested as means of convenient transportation, but here is to all of you fellow low lvl ironmen! Give some love to this fantastic teleport :) First I ran from Ardy monastery to fairy ring and then temple trekking to Burgh. ![]() Decided to try Fairy Ring CKS and do temple trekking to Burgh de rott, which is fine as I need bowstrings anyway for fletching and alching, so I can combine 2 useful activities at once.
